‘Experience Australia’ photo competition

AUSTRALIAN COUNSULATE GENERAL, GUANGZHOU

MEDIA RELEASE                                                   5 April 2007

Former Students Invited to Share their Australian Experience

“Shenzhen residents who have studied in Australia have the opportunity to win great prizes, including a return air ticket to Australia flying Qantas, by entering the ‘Experience Australia’ photo competition,” the Australian Consul-General in Guangzhou, Mr Sean Kelly, announced today.

The Australian Consulate-General and the Shenzhen Press Group, the organizers of the competition, invite former students in Australia who are currently Shenzhen residents, to submit photos that represent their best and most memorable experience as a student in Australia. The photos should be accompanied by a caption (in both English and Chinese) of no more than 25 characters explaining the photo and the memory that it evokes.

“Shenzhen is an important source of overseas students for Australia, and we believe that they have a wealth of interesting experiences to share,” Mr Kelly said. “If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this exhibition will speak volumes about the enjoyable experiences Chinese students have when choosing to study in Australia.”

The organisers will select 20 finalist photos that best represent memorable experiences in Australia, and the readers of Shenzhen Press Group papers and magazines will be invited to vote on-line at the Shenzhen Press Group website for their favourite photo. The finalist photos will be displayed on the Shenzhen Press Group website and on the “Study in Australia” website (www.studyinaustralia.gov.au ) and exhibited at various locations in Shenzhen from 27 April to 20 May. The winners will be decided according to the public voting and announced at the Australian “Experience Australia” Pavilion at the 3rd China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair on Saturday 19 May 2007.

First prize will be a return economy-class ticket from Hong Kong to Australia flying Qantas, the Australian airline. Second and third prize-winners will each receive a dinner for two at the newly-opened Sheraton Shenzhen during their forthcoming Australian Food and Wine Festival. All 20 finalists will also receive a bottle of fine Australian wine courtesy of Auwine Pty Ltd and Shenzhen Galax Trading Co. Ltd. on behalf of Robert Estate. Similar prizes will be given to readers who vote for the winning photo on-line.

To enter, former students in Australia should e-mail their high-resolution photos (no larger than 2MB) to [email protected]  or send 8 x 10 inch print to: Experience Australia, 12/F, Development Centre, No.3 Linjiang Da Dao, Zhujiang New City, Guangzhou, 510623.
