Out From Under Australian Architecture and Design Exhibition Open
in Changsha
Changsha, 16 October 2009: “Following successful exhibitions in San Francisco, Hong Kong, Kunming and Guangzhou, the Australian Consulate-General in Guangzhou and the College of Architecture at Hunan University are proud to present the ‘Out From Under’ Australian Architecture and Design Exhibition in Changsha,” the Australian Consul-General to Guangzhou, Mr Sean Kelly, announced at an opening ceremony at Hunan University today.
“‘Out from Under’ highlights the vibrant design culture of Australia and showcases responses of young Australian practices to new and innovative materials and practices,” Mr Kelly explained. The exhibition was an initiative of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects International, with the support of the Australian Institute of Architects (Hong Kong Chapter) and MAP architects and planners.
“This Exhibition gives Hunan’s architects and students of architecture the opportunity to see creativity and innovation of Australian architects,” Mr Kelly said. “From the iconic ‘Water Cube’ Olympic Aquatics Centre designed by Australians for the Beijing Olympics to the many other futuristic designs throughout the Exhibition, you can see very clearly what Australia has to offer.”
Also participating in the opening at Hunan University today was Mr Chen Zhanpeng, Deputy Director-General of the Changsha Urban Planning Administration Bureau, and Professor Chen Shuyun, Deputy Party Secretary of the College of Architecture of Hunan University.
“The Australian Government places a very high priority on sustainable development and so developing cooperation in green building and green energy are key planks of Australia’s economic engagement with China,” Mr Kelly explained. “This MOU will help Changsha forge partnerships with Australia’s world-class green design and construction companies.”
The Out from Under Exhibition will be displayed at the College of Architecture of Hunan University from 16 to 31 October 2009.
