Large Numbers of Scholarships on Offer from Australia
“Australia offers a wide range of both Government and university scholarships for outstanding students from China”, Mr Sean Kelly, Australian Consul-General to Guangzhou, said today.
“In the next 5 years, 19,000 Australian Government Scholarships will be offered to students from the Middle East to the Pacific across a wide range of categories including research, vocational education and executive awards” Mr Kelly said, “and Chinese students should also be taking advantage of the 700 scholarships being offered by Australia’s universities.”
An example of the exciting scholarships available through Australia’s universities is a recent initiative from the University of New South Wales’ (UNSW) internationally recognised School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering. The School is offering five sponsored places in the School’s PhD program for research students/engineers from China, India and South Korea, starting March 2008.
In addition, a further 80 (40 in 2008, 40 in 2009) sponsored Master of Engineering Science (MEngSci) are also being offered for those interested in completing postgraduate coursework study. These opportunities are made possible with financial support from the Australian Government through the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate.
“The School’s Director, Dr Martin Green, was the recent recipient of the 2007 SolarWorld Einstein Award, so you will be studying with the world’s best” Mr Kelly said. “The chance to study alongside some of the worlds leading solar technologists and be trained to participate in the booming photovoltaic and solar energy industry is a great opportunity for Chinese students”.
