Australian Olympic Athlete and Sports Ambassador to Visit Guangzhou
The Australian Consulate-General today announced that Australian Olympic sprinter and Sports Ambassador, Mr Patrick Johnson, will visit Guangzhou from 13 to 15 December.
Mr Johnson was the first Australian to break the ten-second barrier in the 100 meters sprint in 2003. He was a finalist in the 200 meters at the World Championships in 2005 and a finalist in the 100 and 200 meters at the Commonwealth Games in 2006. He is currently in training for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
“Patrick is an accomplished elite athlete and will be a real medal chance at the Beijing Olympic Games,” the Australian Consul General in Guangzhou, Mr Sean Kelly, said today. “His visit to Guangzhou is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Australia’s strong sporting tradition and expertise in providing sports services in the lead up to the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and the Guangzhou Asian Games in 2010,” Mr Kelly added.
Mr Johnson will be conducting a number of public appearances during his visit to Guangzhou, including a sports clinic with Guangdong provincial sprint team and the students at the Guangzhou Institute of Physical Education.
Mr Johnson will also be speaking with students at the American International School about his experiences and what is required to become an elite athlete.
The media is invited to cover both of these events. Following these events, Mr Johnson will be available for brief interviews. Details of his appearances are as follows:
