AUSTRALIAN PAVILION CELEBRATES 100 DAY COUNTDOWN TO EXPO OPENING
Shanghai: The Australian pavilion celebrated the 100-day countdown to the opening of the Shanghai World Expo 2010 by welcoming a large contingent of Chinese media to tour the near-completed building on the eve of this significant milestone.
“The 100-day countdown is a very important milestone for the Shanghai World Expo 2010 organisers, and also for Australia,” said Australia's Commissioner-General, Ms Lyndall Sachs.
“As the largest expo the world has ever seen, the Expo Bureau has had an ambitious program of work to deliver, and it is a credit to the organisers that so much has been achieved to date, Ms Sachs said.
“I am delighted that Australia has also made great progress. Australia has consistently led the way among the international participants in reaching construction milestones, celebrating a series of ‘firsts’ since work began on the site over a year ago,” said Ms Sachs.
“Our pavilion at Shanghai is Australia’s largest investment in a world expo, and demonstrates our strong commitment to helping to make this historic event a great success for the people of Shanghai, China and Australia.”
Ms Sachs said, “on behalf of the Australian expo team – many of whom will be arriving in Shanghai soon – I look forward to welcoming visitors to ‘Australia in Shanghai’ in 100 days’ time.”
