                                                                  VACANCY

The Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) of the Australian Consulate-General Guangzhou has a non-ongoing vacancy to fill the following position.

                                                                Office Manager and Translator

The position is for a period of two years. Applications are invited from Chinese Nationals, Australian Nationals and holders of diplomatic visas. Successful applicant is required to complete relevant pre-employment procedures before commencement.

The vacancy will be filled at the LE 4 level. The successful applicant will be required to work 30 hours per week initially, with option to be extended to full-time hours depending on operational need. This position involves irregular overtime working and overnight travel.

About the position

Under general direction, the Office Manager and Translator provides office support to the AUSTRAC Officer in Guangzhou and also undertakes translation and interpreting duties as required.

The key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Managing the day-to-day administrative and operational duties of the office, and providing support to the AUSTRAC Officer
  • Monitoring, translating and analysing media reports and key publications (local and international), identifying emerging issues and preparing timely and relevant advice on key issues of relevance
  • Performing research and analysis activities and draft reports and correspondence
  • Preparing documentation on moderately complex issues, and assist in the preparation of reports and briefing papers
  • Supporting the coordination and organisation of programs for official visitors, including logistics, liaison and accompanying official visitors as well as the AUSTRAC Officer to appointments as required
  • Liaising, and maintaining relationships, with internal and external stakeholders on moderately complex operational and administrative matters
  • Providing high level translation services between Mandarin (and Cantonese where possible) and English including translation of official correspondence
  • Acting as an interpreter for AUSTRAC during visits and official functions as required

 

Selection Criteria

1.    Proven administrative experience and/or appropriate qualifications or training

2.    High-level written and oral communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to translate and interpret between English and Mandarin

3.    Demonstrated fluency in both in English and Mandarin. The ability to speak and write Cantonese would be an advantage but not essential

4.    Proficiency and accuracy using information management systems and Microsoft Office software applications is desirable

5.    Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with Australian Government officials in Guangzhou and other relevant partner organisations
